MoFo Day 7: Issei Noodle

Carl and I always like to plan our meals when we’re headed out of town so we don’t end up eating at Subway unless absolutely necessary. We knew we’d be driving through Carlisle, PA tonight and scoped out a great looking restaurant online. We didn’t realize the restaurant where we’d planned to eat dinner required reservations, so we headed down the street to Issei Noodle.

We hoped that since it was a noodle restaurant that there would be at least a few options for us, and we were very pleasantly surprised.

We ended up ordering some fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce. I forgot to take a photo of those because we were starving and wolfed them down in about two seconds.Our main meals arrived shortly afterward. I ordered cold vermicelli noodles. This came in an enormous bowl, but I realized that in addition to noodles, there was also lots of crunchy lettuce and beansprouts. The noodles were topped with hot fried tofu and vegan gyoza! Dumplings on top of noodles is a pretty genius idea which I’m going to have to replicate at home. There was also a sweet and gingery soy sauce to coat everything.

Carl ordered the veggie yaki udon which came with fresh vegetables and tofu. I had a bite of his, and the sauce had a flavorful, almost smoky flavor.

Even though our dinner plans didn’t work out quite the way we’d planned, we still had a satisfying and deliciously savory meal.
